Aditya Srivastava, a trainee IPS Officer from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, has achieved the top rank in the highly esteemed UPSC Civil Services Examination 2023. The results, announced by UPSC on April 16th, stand as a testament to his relentless hard work and commitment to his goals.
Aditya Srivastava, originally from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, earned his B.Tech and M.Tech in electrical engineering from IIT Kanpur. He began his career in 2019 with Goldman Sachs in Bangalore, working in the investment banking sector. However, after 15 months in the private sector, Srivastava felt a strong pull to serve his country. Motivated by this desire, he left his well-paying job and returned to his hometown to focus on preparing for the IAS exam, determined to pursue a career in civil services.

Aditya Srivastava, an IAS topper, is a shining example of perseverance and determination. Despite facing setbacks in his first two attempts, where he couldn’t clear the UPSC prelims in 2021, Srivastava did not give up. After carefully evaluating his approach, he refined his study strategy and made significant improvements in his second attempt in 2022, securing AIR 236 and a position in the Indian Police Service (IPS). With this achievement fueling his ambition, Srivastava approached his third attempt in 2023 with renewed focus, ultimately earning a top rank in the IAS exam. His journey is an inspiring testament to the power of persistence and smart preparation in achieving success in the UPSC exams.
Mr. Srivastava’s father works as an Audit Officer in the Central Audit Department, while his mother is a homemaker. Reports indicate that his younger sister is also preparing to pursue a career in civil services.
Srivastava’s Response after Securing Rank 1 in UPSC CSE
Following the announcement of the results, Mr. Srivastava expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his family and friends for their unwavering support throughout his journey. He shared his emotions on X, posting, “A journey I will cherish lifelong, full of gratitude to all those who stood by me throughout. Dreams do come true.” Along with the message, he posted a screenshot of his result with his name highlighted, adding the caption, “One day, after years of struggle, it will hit you in a very beautiful way..!!”
Aditya Srivastava has achieved 117 marks in the Essay (Paper-I) and 104 marks in General Studies-I (Paper-II). In General Studies-II (Paper-III), he scored 132 marks, followed by 95 marks in General Studies-III (Paper-IV). He secured 143 marks in General Studies-IV (Paper-V). For his optional subject, Electrical Engineering, Aditya earned 148 marks in Optional-I (Paper-VI) and 160 marks in Optional-II (Paper-VII). His total score for the written exam amounted to 899 marks, and he earned an additional 200 marks in the personality test, bringing his final total to 1,099 marks.
